A lovely way to start is simply exploring the canal belt and drifting through areas like the Jordaan and the Nine Streets, where you’ll find boutique shops, cosy cafés and that classic Amsterdam atmosphere. A canal cruise is also a favourite because it lets you see the city from its best angle without feeling rushed. If you want the famous highlights, Museumplein is the big one for culture, with the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum right there. The Anne Frank House is another key visit for many people - it’s really moving, but it does tend to sell out, so it’s worth knowing tickets are only sold through the official site.
