Orkney guided tour with Italian Chapel

The Orkney day begins with the ferry from Gills Bay to St Margaret’s Hope, before meeting a local guide for a full-day tour of the islands. This gives the day more depth, with stories, scenery and island history brought together as you travel.

One of the key visits is the Italian Chapel, a small but moving chapel on Lamb Holm created by Italian prisoners of war during the Second World War. It remains one of Orkney’s most memorable visitor sites, combining history, craft and a peaceful island setting.

After a full day exploring Orkney, the group returns by ferry and travels back to the hotel in Thurso.

North Coast 500 northern route and John O’Groats

The North Coast 500 northern route brings big Highland scenery into the itinerary, with the coach travelling through Bettyhill, Wick and John O’Groats. This stretch is all about wide coastal views, remote northern villages and the sense of reaching Scotland’s far edge.

Travelling by coach makes this part of the journey easier, especially on a route known for long distances and changing Highland roads.

The Station Hotel, Thurso

Your stay at The Station Hotel in Thurso offers a warm Highland base after full days of sightseeing. The hotel has a traditional, comfortable feel, with hearty evening meals and breakfasts included as part of the tour.

Its Thurso setting works well for this itinerary, keeping you close to the far north route and the ferry connection for Orkney.

Dunrobin Castle and Blair Castle

The tour includes a visit to Dunrobin Castle, one of the most recognisable castle stops in the northern Highlands, with grand architecture, gardens and a strong sense of history.

On the journey south, Blair Castle adds another historic highlight, with time to enjoy the castle setting before continuing home.
