The story behind the fixture
First nights. Famous goals. A fresh chapter.
Napoli were City’s opponents on their Champions League debut in September 2011, a 1–1 draw in Manchester. Napoli won the return 2–1, establishing an early edge in a fixture that has since swung City’s way.
City won both meetings in 2017, including a spectacular 4–2 victory in Naples when Sergio Agüero’s 178th City goal made him the club’s all-time leading scorer. Their most recent meeting brought a 2–0 City home win in September 2025. Now comes another chapter, with European progress on both clubs’ minds.

Home advantage for City.
A big opportunity for Napoli.
For City, this is a chance to turn home support into valuable points. For Napoli, a result away to the 2023 European champions would be a statement as well as a boost to their own campaign.
With just eight league-phase matches, every result shapes the route ahead: the top eight advance straight to the last 16, while ninth to 24th enter the knockout play-offs. There’s plenty to play for under the Etihad lights.
