Coach Hire for Secondary Schools

Give teachers and pupils a transport plan that fits the purpose of the visit. Secondary-school journeys can involve several year groups, subject departments or activity schedules, so the useful starting point is the actual travelling party and programme. Bring collection, arrival requirements and the journey back together before circulating the final trip instructions.

A clear plan for your school group

Bring the journey details together so the people organising your trip can work from one clear plan.

Your group
Secondary Schools
  1. Passengers and accompanying adults

Include everyone travelling in your passenger total. Tell us about luggage, equipment and any particular travel requirements when you enquire.

  2. School pickup and arrival

Give the exact collection address, the arrival deadline and the time your group needs to be ready for collection. Share any access instructions from the school and destination.

  3. The journey home

Set out the finishing time, return pickup point and emergency contact for the organiser. Ask our team about any requirements that need confirming before you book.

Planning this journey

Count pupils, teachers, support staff and any other accompanying adults. Give the school entrance the coach should use, the destination address and the time the group needs to be ready for its first session. Include equipment, overnight bags or subject-specific materials that need to travel, with details of bulky items for discussion.

Explain whether everyone follows the same programme. If groups separate at a campus, museum or activity site, identify the agreed collection point and who will bring them together for departure. The school organises pupil supervision, registers and its own trip procedures; the transport brief should show how the coach movements fit those arrangements.

Use the estimator for a straightforward journey, or send the complete itinerary as a tailored enquiry. Our team confirms the route, coach access, timings and vehicle availability before booking.

Work backwards from the learning activity

A workshop, examination-related visit or booked laboratory session usually requires preparation before it starts. Tell us when pupils need to arrive, not just when the first session begins. Check whether the venue has an education entrance, a coach bay or an unloading instruction different from its public address. Include a midday transfer or a second venue if it is part of the day, rather than leaving it out of the enquiry. If the visit organiser changes the timetable, update the travel requirement so the school and our team are working from the same version.

Make the return fit the school day

Decide whether pupils return during normal school hours, after the buses have left or in the evening. The school should set its own onward collection arrangements and give parents clear instructions. Tell us the time the group will be ready to board at the venue, allowing for registers, equipment and any change of clothes. For a residential visit, specify whether you need only outward and homeward transfers or additional journeys during the stay. A series of visits needs a full itinerary for a tailored enquiry, with each day and destination set out separately.

Good to know.

A few answers before you set off.

What should a school trip organiser prepare?

Prepare the total passenger count including accompanying adults, pickup and destination addresses, arrival and return times, and an organiser contact. Tell us about equipment, luggage and any particular travel requirements that need confirming.

How many people can travel on a coach?

Each coach has up to 53 passenger seats. For larger groups, the estimate builder calculates the additional coaches needed. Tell us about luggage and any particular travel requirements so our team can confirm the arrangements.

How do I get a coach hire estimate?

Use the estimate calculator on this page. Enter your passenger numbers, travel date, pickup points, destination and timings, then choose your journey arrangement. You can save your journey and send an enquiry to our team.

Can we have more than one pickup?

Yes. Add the pickup points in the estimate builder in the order you would like to visit them. The proposed schedule allows boarding time at each pickup. Our team checks the practical arrangements before confirming the journey.

Is the coach booked when I send an enquiry?

Sending an enquiry does not reserve a coach. We email a copy to you and our team, who check coach access, timings and availability before confirming your quote.

Can I save the journey and share it with passengers?

Save your private journey link to return to your plan and follow your enquiry. The calculator also provides a passenger itinerary without prices or contact details. Keep your private journey link for the organiser.

What if my journey needs a different arrangement?

Use the tailored enquiry form in the calculator for a different return route, multiple destinations or a journey it does not cover. Include your full route, dates, passenger numbers and preferred timings so our team can help.
